Stressing a Deadline Date on Your Envelope in Direct Mail Marketing If your particular promotion has a deadline or a cutoff date, stress that urgency on your outgoing envelope with copy like "deadline material enclosed" or "response by January 30th is mandatory if you wish to participate in this program". Some people think that a deadline printed on the envelope is borderline insulting, but it's proven to work. I don't happen to think that it's insulting either. The deadline should be done tastefully. If you make it too big or too bold you will be overstressing your direct mail offer. Keep it tasteful.
